“One thing I’ve always found helpful to share with players attending college ID camps is the importance of engaging with current players whenever possible. Those current players can be an extension of the coaching staff in some ways coaches often ask them for impressions of camp attendees, especially when it comes to team culture and overall fit.
Being willing to have conversations during downtime rather than just sitting on your phone can go a long way. Talk with other campers, connect with the current players, and make a point to introduce yourself to coaches. The more real, positive interactions you have, the more likely they are to remember you when your name comes up later.
Ultimately, talent is important, but character, coachability, and fit matter just as much. Showing you’re someone who’s engaged, curious, and easy to talk to can really help you stand out in a meaningful way.”
