Fueling Soccer Parents with the Best Gear, Game-Day Essentials, and Training Tools – Because Every Parent Should Play, Compete, and Win Alongside Their Kids!

What They Are, Why They Matter, and How to Find the Right Fit

Each year, as traditional tryouts wrap up, families across the Ohio start asking the same question: “Is it too late to find a team?” The answer is no—but the process and timing have changed. Here’s what you need to know about supplemental tryouts, how the landscape has evolved, and how you can still find the right home for your player.

1. How Tryout Season Has Changed Over the Years

Not too long ago, tryouts took place during a clearly defined window in late May or early June, often with just one or two sessions per club. Teams were finalized quickly, and if you missed tryouts, your options were limited. But in recent years, the youth soccer landscape has shifted.

With the growth of new leagues, changing calendar demands, and increased competition among clubs, the tryout process has become more fluid. Clubs now add additional sessions, host pre tryout ID clinics, and keep spots open longer. This is especially relevant for players moving from recreational to competitive soccer, families relocating, or those rethinking their original commitments. The idea of a “one-shot” tryout season has become a thing of the past.

2. A Record Number of Late Requests in 2025

This year, we’ve seen more post-tryout inquiries than ever before. Parents are reaching out daily—sometimes even within hours of receiving an offer elsewhere—realizing that their player may be better suited for a different environment. Whether it’s due to chemistry, coaching style, league fit, or scheduling needs, the reasons vary, but the trend is clear: families are still looking after the tryouts have “ended.” And so are clubs.

We hear from parents whose kids didn’t get placed, those who recently moved, and others who just learned their team didn’t come together or doesn’t have enough interest after the main tryout window. The good news? Clubs across the region are still forming teams and filling roster spots. The key is knowing where to look—and acting quickly.

3. High School Players: Don’t Wait Until After the Season

For high school-age players, this time of year is focused on one of two things – post-season regional and national competitions and preparation for high school. But when it comes to planning for after high school, waiting until November to figure out your club situation can put you at a disadvantage.

Soccer numbers see their biggest attrition rates starting in U14 and climbing as your make your way through high school. Clubs need to make big personnel and planning decisions regarding coaches, leagues and finances based on who has made commitments and place deposits NOW, meaning if you don’t find a team now, there might not be a team when you are ready.

Clubs build their older age group rosters now, even if the team won’t train again until November. Clubs are eager to know their rosters as soon as possible College showcases, winter futsal, and off-season strength programs all begin shortly after the high school season ends. If you’re a high school player hoping to compete at the next level—or simply stay sharp—don’t wait. Lock in your spot now so you’re not scrambling later.
